I am hosting a canvassing event on Sunday, April 23rd with Swing Left and Knock Every Door to talk to voters in Long Island and Eastern Queens, specifically the communities located within swing district NY-03.
We will go door-to-door, talking to our neighbors in Long Island about the results of the recent election and asking them to register to vote. We can't wait until the next election to start organizing in our community - we need to go door-to-door now! We'll start with a training on voter registration practices and the Knock Every Door script and end with a debrief of our experience knocking on doors and talking to voters. We welcome first time canvassers!
The goal of the Knock Every Door voter listening script is to learn what is important to voters so we can start prioritizing and pitching our Democratic values with a crosswalk to voters' values. This will be especially important as we get closer to local races and 2018 congressional races. Our second goal is to start to build back support among those voters who flipped Obama-Trump. More importantly, our over-arching goal is to ask fellow liberals and progressives to join us as Swing Left volunteers to keep and take back the House and state senate.
We are focusing on all major neighborhoods throughout NY-03, starting with Bellerose and Jamaica and working our way North and East throughout Queens and Long Island.
On Sunday, April 23rd, we'll meet in front of Sagar Chinese at 252-5 Union Turnpike in Bellerose. We will have a table set up and I will be there by noon so feel free to arrive early.
Dress for the weather, wear your walking shoes, and bring water. We're going to have a lot of fun, get to know each other and our neighbors, and start to do the work that can help us defeat Trump.
We will arrange a car pool from the Long Island Railroad!
