Errol Toulon Jr. is leaving his job as top law enforcement adviser to Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone to become the $185,000-a-year first deputy correction commissioner in New York City, where he had been a correction captain.

Toulon, a $125,515-a-year assistant deputy county executive, departs after nearly two years overseeing the county's new traffic court; the Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services Department; and the recent search for a new medical examiner.

Toulon, 51, of Lake Grove was a 2012 Democratic candidate against state Sen. John Flanagan (R-East Northport) until six weeks before Election Day, when he withdrew to take the Bellone administration post, leaving Flanagan to run unopposed.-- Rick Brand
